The cross stitch site Funk and Weber is running a series of tutorials on how to start threads. These things will work on any ground fabric, so I thought I'd mention them on Blog. The first posting is about starting threads with waste knots.

Next is how to start threads with a loop.

The next tutorial talks about starting threads by piercing them.

Note that some of these techniques can also be used to end off threads.

If you ever wanted to try to make dimensional flowers from silk ribbons for your needlepoint canvases, you will want to read this book review of Di Van Niekerk's newest Silk Ribbon Embroidery (SRE) book.

Mary Corbet is a very good embroiderer with a lot of teaching experience in many techniques. If she says something is good, it is. Mary also tells folks where to get this book, even though the authors are South African, and you may be in Australia, the UK or the US.
