Carol and her friend Christine have designed a counted band sampler to raise funds for the Embroiderer's Guild of South Australia. I thought the counted canvas work folks would love to see Carol's tribute to her Guild. You can pick up a copy of the sampler by following the link or by going straight to the second URL below although you probably will have to talk to the Guild about shipping charges before you buy.

Of course we all knew Carol was a winner, but now she has the ribbons to prove it.

Thank you, Carol
Thanks to Carol of Carol's Counted Canvaswork I have discovered a new teacher and designer of counted pieces--Christine Bishop. That birdcage work box is to die for!

Ok, EGA chapters, start saving up to bring Christine to the U.S. to teach.

Anyone who has drooled over the ANG Seminar class descriptions has seen Sue Reed's work. She specializes in graphic designs that are beautiful and symmetrical. Carol just finished "Graphic Expressions" from the 2012 ANG Seminar and posted photos of her colors and the original model. Great stuff!

A New Thread and a Design to Come
Carol of Carol's Counted Canvaswork has some good news. She's going to be published in Inspirations magazine this fall. Congratulations! We will keep our eyes open for the issue.
http://carolscountedcanvasworkneedleworks.blogspot.com/2012/05/some-new-threads-from-england.html
Carol's also reporting on a thread that is new to me--cottons from 21st Century Yarns. Browsing their website, they offer all sorts of threads and fabrics in lovely colors. This is an English company so I am not sure how quickly you can get your mitts on these beauties but they certainly are something I will want to try.

Many thanks to Carol from us threadaholics.

New Scissors Protectors
Labels:
Carol's Counted Canvaswork,
scissors
Carol's found a new way to protect the tips of her scissors. She's recycling medical scissors protectors. Time to beg anyone in the medical profession you know to check their supply closets for things they would ordinarily throw out to see if you can recycle them! Carol's in Australia, however, so the brand name she mentions may not be available elsewhere.

Counted Down Under
Because not everyone is into painted canvases like me, I'm pairing today's tale of Robin's Insomnia canvas with an interview Sara Leigh has done with Carol Young of Carol's Counted Canvaswork in Australia. Carol's a counted thread designer with a wonderful take on fancy stitches and happy colors. You'll enjoy getting to know her, even if you aren't really much of a counted person like me.
http://stitchything.blogspot.com/2011/07/wonder-from-down-under.html
You can see Carol's newest designs underway on her blog. I find it fascinating to see them develop, even though I'm not much of a counted thread stitcher myself.
http://carolscountedcanvasworkneedleworks.blogspot.com/
By the way, Pat has mentioned a counted thread Yahoo Group called The Stitch Specialists that some folks who are really into that technique might be interested in. I don't belong myself (Are you kidding?! I can't even count the same small line of stitches and come up with the same number consistently?!)

Exotics
Labels:
Carol's Counted Canvaswork,
threads
If you are tired of using the same thread types or brands over and over again, Carol's showing off some of the exotic threads available to us now on her blog. Remember, Carol designs and teaches counted canvaswork in Australia so you will see some threads from the United States listed as exotics.

Counted Canvaswork and Painted Canvases
This morning I have new eye candy for you. Since the trade show news has been mostly about painted canvases, here is a lovely silk version of a counted piece from Needle Delights.
http://thenimbleneedle.blogspot.com/2011/06/tangerine-twist.html
Carol has a lovely little free ornament for us, straight from Australia. This will make great Christmas ornaments, a scissors fob or just something pretty to pin on your bulletin board at work.

http://carolscountedcanvasworkneedleworks.blogspot.com/2011/06/here-is-chart-for-free-design.html
Ridgewood has been showcasing older designs that are just as wonderful today as they were when they were first released. Their Famous Women series (from Labors of Love ) can be paired with a matching frame.
http://ridgewoodneedlepoint.blogspot.com/2011/06/famous-women.html
They also have a lovely Gone with the Wind canvas with all the main characters. I don't know who the designer of this classic is, but I bet fans will have great fun stitching it as a momento of a great movie.
http://ridgewoodneedlepoint.blogspot.com/2011/06/gone-with-wind.html
The final touch this morning is 8 blog entries from Pocket Full of Stitches, showing off their current Patti Mann trunk show. Twenty percent off, folks!
