Note Cards with Needle Minder from Puffin

If you like gifting stitching buddies with needle minders, you'll be charmed by Puffin's latest endeavor--a note card with a magnet attached plus an envelope.

The note card is blank inside so you can write your own message--or attach a joke or Secret Santa signature!

Tiny Needle Threaders for Tiny Needles UPDATED

Mary Corbet is working on 48 count silk gauze and hunting for a needle threader that works well with size 10 beading needles.
https://www.needlenthread.com/2018/10/micro-needle-threader.html

I've seen Puffin and Company's micro threader and it is really tiny.  However, I use an old fashioned wire needle threader, the kind that has a stamped tin base.
https://www.stitchpiecenpurl.com/needle-threader.htm

I buy a package whenever I find them (they are getting harder to find) and open it right away, laying the threaders out on the kitchen counter on a sheet of waxed paper.  Then I put a drop of super glue on the base where the wires attach and let them all dry.  I rarely pulled the wires out now when threading up my beading needles, whether for beading or stitching on silk gauze, since.

UPDATE:  Sara Leigh highly recommends the Colonial Needle Ultra Fine Needle Threader. Here is what it looks like-

Needle in a Haystack in California stocks them, as well as a wide range of other types of needle threaders.  Scroll down past all the needles to the bottom of the page to see them.

These come in a variety of designs, too.

New Magnetic Micro Threaders

I just realized that Puffin and Co. has new micro needle threaders which will thread most beading needle eyes. This link shows the cute regular magnetic threaders and then the tiny ones below. There are lots of their products on this page, though, in case you want to browse more of what they offer.

Pocket Full of Stitches has restocked their sliding top needle cases from Just Nan, plus they have new magnet needle keepers and a threader from Puffin and Company.  If you need places to keep or just park your needles, consider these.

All About Thread Separators

Like Mary Corbet, I was puzzled by the thread separators from Puffin and Company, at least until I tried one. They are fun to use, and I think folks with disabilities might find them very useful indeed in untwisting threads.
http://www.needlenthread.com/2013/09/a-needlework-tool-that-baffled-me-until.html

Things that we take for granted can be huge problems if you have to work one-handed!

The Puffin website has a nice selection of designs, too.  Don't you just love tools that are not only functional but pretty?!

July Shop Newsletters

It's the first of July (or it was when I wrote this) and that means shop newsletters! The first published was Amy Bunger's.   Besides glimpses of her Tudors Home Study lessons, there are new magnets and canvases galore to admire.  I am not a fan of the metal magnets from Puffin but the dual pumpkins are adorable and of course there are flashy rhinestone magnets from Elizabeth Turner Collection and Accoutrement Designs if you need bling like I do.  There are a few darling scissor fobs as well as a wonderful Wild Women canvas (Melissa Shirley Designs) of Queen Elizabeth I with astounding lace sleeves.

The Bedecked and Beaddazzled newsletter is available today as well. Besides the news about Ruth Schmuff's wonderful mystery classes, she explains now to make wonderful curls using Wonder Ribbon.  There are also glimpses of new canvases to enjoy as well.

March Shop Newsletters

Amy Bunger's shop newsletter for March is online, full of fun new things to look at!  She shows off photos of two new sets of Victorian Kids from Melissa Shirley (Easter kids and Irish ones for St. Patty's Day) plus an Easter house, photos of new colors of various threads from Rainbow Gallery for the threadaholics (including a glow in the dark orange Neon Rays Plus), new magnet styles and buttons both with an Easter flair, and a bonus bunny Easter Egg drawing you can transfer to a piece of plain canvas and stitch according to Amy's instructions.  If you've ever wanted to try one of Amy's stitch guides, this is a good way to indulge yourself, although you will have to buy some of the newly introduced threads or substitute from your stash if you are being thrifty this month.
http://www.amybunger.com/f/0313.pdf

There is also a review of Julia Snyder's newest book, Great Layers for Needlepoint.  Plus Amy talks about the use of counting pins and does a mini review of the new ones from Puffin and Company.  There is also a sneak peek at the stitching on the Anne Cleves section of the Home Study canvas Amy is going to offer in 2013!  This is a Tudor-themed canvas for the English history buff from JP Needlepoint.  If you thought about taking this class from Amy but haven't signed up yet, read this section carefully.

Bedecked and Beadazzled's newsletter is ready for viewing as well.  Besides all the wonderful classes and the new cupcake club from Melissa Shirley, Ruth shows us how to brick stitch bead and explains how that looks compared to regular beading where you attach beads like tent stitches.  Then she shows off new canvases that are arriving daily.

Gosh, the newsletters are full of interesting stuff!

What Does the Needlepoint Fashionista Wear?

Recently I've been noticing something interesting in the photos of pieces folks are stitching that are popping up on their blogs and websites. Look at these photos from BeStitched, a shop in Scottsdale, Arizona.  Noticing anything?
http://bestitchedneedlepoint.com/news-and-updates/scooter-mouse-mania/

How about this photo of one of the class pieces from an embellishment class Brenda Hart taught last week at Bedecked and Beadazzled in Baltimore, Maryland?

Now go check out Vickey's Witchy Poo Halloween cat. Vicky lives in California. Notice anything there?
http://mostlyneedlepoint.com/09/30/witchy-poo-and-now-santa-baby/

Look at Michele's latest Halloween canvas.  Michele's in Florida, by the way.
http://bristlythistle.blogspot.com/2011/10/my-new-ghost-magnet-is-celebrating.html

Yes, stitchers from three different regions of the country are matching their needle magnet styles to the theme of their current canvas.  It's easy to do since there are so many beautiful magnets available there days.  Check out the Needle Buddies form Elizabeth Turner Collection.
http://www.elizabethturnercollection.com/Needle_Buddies.html

Elizabeth Turner offers the little rhinestone studded critters you see above and Needle Bling, which are giant magnetic rhinestones (just in case you need to channel Elizabeth Taylor as you stitch).
http://pocketfullofstitches.blogspot.com/2011/02/needle-bling-is-back.html

Here are more Elizabeth Turner styles for the stitcher who needs a cupcake, a bird's nest, and a bug magnet for the three canvases in their rotation.

Of course there are the classic cameo-style magnets from Kelmscott Designs and the beautiful glass magnets from Custom House of Needle Arts. You can see the metal magnet sets from Puffin and Company here, too.

Want to see the latest Mag Friends (and matching Fob Friends for your scissors)?

Even Amy Bunger is hooked!
