Monogram and Alphabet Charts

This morning I set up a new tab under the photo header of Blog- called "Monogram and Alphabet Sources."  I've listed the books and online sources for charted lettering for monograms and lettering as on a stocking top.  If you know of other good sources, please let me know at chilly hollow at hot mail dot com.  Thanks!

How to End and Restart Binding Stitch

Ever starting binding stitch on the edge of your belt only to run out of thread a third of the way done the long length of belt?  Sure you have.  Fire and Iris shows how to end off the thread and restart the binding stitch with a new length in this short video tutorial.

Not sure what the binding stitch is?  There are plenty of video tutorials on YouTube but I like Tink Boord-Dill's.

Note that not all belt finishing requires a binding stitch.  Check with the finisher before you do all that work.

Melita's Alphabet Book Collection

Melita has compiled a list of the books she owns with alphabet lettering, just in case you want to add to your collection.  She also has links to online resources.

Personally, I find Tink Boord-Dill's alphabet books really useful.  She sells them through Amazon if your favorite needlepoint shop doesn't have any in stock.

Where Would We Be Without Our Tools? UPDATED

Today is all about the tools we use.  Janet Perry has copied ThreadworX's guide to caring for their threads on her blog. The list of things not to do is good to their threads is great to keep in mind with all threads, since many of them are no longer colorfast and we needlepointers don't usually pre-wash threads before stitching like stitchers on linens often do.

Rita on the ANG email list mentioned Clover's domed needle case which you can use to carry pre-threaded needles with you on a trip. I was curious enough to look up information about this item, and found a video of how it works on the Clover website.   Click on the video called "Dome Threaded Needle Case."

Needlepoint Tool Time has received copies of the new June McKnight book "Spooky Stitches."  Tisha does a brief review on the shop blog, including a photo of the page layout.

UPDATE:  PFOS has a review with even more photos of various stitches inside.

PFOS just got in some of Tink Boord-Dill's charted alphabet books and also have a review with page layout photos.
