Sunflowers (and more) for Ukraine

I'm starting to see sunflowers all over, and realized this is because they are Ukraine's flower.  As I write this, the invasion of Ukraine is still stalled.  Hopefully diplomacy (or common decency) will prevail and the Russian army will retreat.  To take this back to needlepoint, Carol Curtis Needlepoint Design has a lovely realistic sunflower.

Suzi of VNG has a sunflower fund raiser for Ukraine.

So does Pepperberry.

Judy Ann has added several small sunflower pieces to her Etsy store.

If you are fond of traditional needlepoint pillows, Beth Russell's pillow kit is gorgeous.  It's also available with a green or paprika red background but we'll show the blue since yellow and blue are the Ukrainian flag colors.

Are you a fan of abstract art?  Then this Zecca canvas of four sunflowers is going to be right up your alley.

The Meredith Collection has at least two sunflowers.

Mary Lake Thompson has a gorgeous sunflower boot for the Southwestern fans.

Want something smaller? This Abigail Cecile version is for you.

JP has a lovely little peace ornament and...

...a darling sunflower egg design.

The queen of floral needlepoint design is Jean Smith.  This beauty is on 13 count.

Jean also has a very elegant sunflower topiary.

Patt of Patt and Lee has a large sunflower that's gorgeous.  Change the teal background to blue and there you go.

Jody Valentine has several small sunflower ornaments.

If you are a fan of counted canvaswork, Laura Perin's "Ukrainian Eggs" is a fabulous design from a chart.

Laura has taken one of the eggs from "Ukrainian Eggs" and charted it for a free project.  Thanks, Laura!

JP Needlepoint is painting an Ukrainian egg design.  It's not finished yet but you can see how it is developing here.

JP Needlepoint now has individual Ukrainian eggs available.

If you have more canvases than time, how about this charming heart magnet from Kirkland Design Studio?

Rebecca Wood has a charming reindeer ornament for Ukraine.

We stitch our hopes and dreams, don't we?  We dream of peace in Ukraine.  By the way, Tilli Thomas of Planet Earth has a new Ukrainian flag ornament that is a fund raiser for the brave soils there.

UPDATES:  Jolly Red has a subtle bow to Ukraine in their Brighter Days Daffodils kit.

Kathy Brandt has added a lovely heart flag to her line.

Hedgehog has a Kyiv Vintage Luggage tag needle magnet now.

Hannah Bass has a traditional needlepoint kit.

Laura Love Designs has a new charted sunflower chart fund raiser.  It'll be available as a painted canvas later this year.

Laura Love's painted version of the pretty Ukrainian embroidery with sunflower is ready.

Elizabeth Bradley has redone their small sunflower kit with a Ukrainian blue background.  All profits go to charities to help the Ukrainian refugees.

CanvasWorks has a great kit with the Ukrainian symbol.  Available this summer.

BeauVerre Art has Ukrainian needle minders.  The Labors of Love shop has them in stock.

Painted Pony has an angel that is a fund raiser for Ukrainian displaced children.

Anne Fisher is distributing two needlepoint canvases from Julia Krasnik, an Ukrainian artist.

CanvasWorks: The Movie

The Needlepointer in Washington State's September 2020 trunk show is from CanvasWorks.  I don't usually highlight trunk shows but CanvasWork's lovely designs are not often seen online and they deserve to be.
https://vimeo.com/454800597

If you like traditional designs that are stitch painted in beautiful glowing colors, you'll love these designs.  If you fall in love, you can browse the trunk show online at the shop.
https://www.theneedlepointer.com/trunk-shows/

Sometimes we need comfort stitching, don't we?  Most of these designs scream for tent stitches and a good movie to watch.  Have fun!

Stitch like a Politician

If political madness is overtaking your household, at least you can stitch like a Democrat (or Republican)!  Here are a selection of political designs for you to choose from.  Ridgewood has little boxes.
http://ridgewoodneedlepoint.blogspot.com/2015/08/political-party-hinged-box-canvases.html

You can stitch the fun patriotic donkey and elephant ornaments from Rebecca Wood.
http://rittenhouseneedlepoint.com/patriotic-donkey.html

http://rittenhouseneedlepoint.com/patriotic-elephant.html

You can stitch coasters from Canvasworks in either elephant...

...or donkey versions.
http://rittenhouseneedlepoint.com/donkey-coasters-set-of-4.html

Or you can just stitch something that covers both parties, courtesy of Petei.

Needlepoint for the Politics Junkie

I know you are out there, political junkies. You follow elections like some folks follow sports.  With the Presidential elections coming up in the fall, you aren't hiding from the pollsters, avoiding the ads or ignoring the pundits.  You are critiquing them.  This is your Super Bowl.

So I have some needlepoint for you.  If you are too busy campaigning to stitch yourself, support the New Hampshire Historical Society by buying one of their Democratic/Republican dog collars, or pick up a Smathers and Branson belt to wear yourself.

http://www.smathersandbranson.com/web/catalog.aspx?group=6

If you want to stitch your own belt, CanvasWorks has both the Republican and Democratic version.  Susan Roberts also has party affiliation belts but I can't find any images online.  Sorry.
http://store.apneedlearts.com/clforpare.html

CanvasWorks also has decorative elephant and donkey canvases that are more subtle but still allow you to show off your political affiliation.
http://yarntree.typepad.com/needlework_news/2015/10/shanta-vs-jake.html

If you need something quick and easy to stitch while watching the conventions, Painted Pony has simple graphic elephants and donkeys.  (Please note that are non-partisan patriotic patterns available from Painted Pony as well.)

There are stitch guides for these designs, too!

If you have a mixed marriage, how about a Stars and Stripes tic tac toe game board?

Carolyn Hedge Baird taught a class with political animals for Chaparral.  These might still be available as a kit but you'll have to ask.

CanvasWorks and More

Today I don't have access to my bookmarks and can't post any progress photos since Beloved is downloading an update to World of Warcraft.  It's been almost 12 hours since he started the download and since WOW claims they have 12 million subscribers, all of whom are trying to download the same things, the computer is tied up for another couple of hours still.

So why don't we go look at the CanvasWorks trunk show that Nimble Needle has posted on their blog?  Canvasworks doesn't have a website so this is a rare glimpse of their work.  The top blog entry is a plea for help finding beading ribbon, but four of the next five postings are all CanvasWorks canvases.  These are lovely classic designs, perfect for all basketweave in your most favorite thread in the world.
http://thenimbleneedle.blogspot.com/

The mathematically inclinded might like to check out this posting.  I have no idea what a Hilbert curve is, but it makes great NP!
http://thenimbleneedle.blogspot.com/2010/09/math-monday-mathematical-needlepoint.html

On another topic entirely, thanks to Kathy's Unbroken Thread blog (crewel embroidery mostly), I discovered Map Muse.  It tells you where to find embroidery, needlepoint and cross stitch shops when you travel.  If you are going anywhere, check it out.  (There is also a way to add shops that they have missed, so if your favorites aren't in the system, add them to help out your fellow stitchers.)  Kathy used it to find a lot of fun places on her last trip but I'd love more feedback about whether this is useful for all parts of the U.S.  The site itself is very cluttered and full of ads but if it works, we can overlook that.
http://find.mapmuse.com/interest/stitch-shops

Gay Ann Roger's e-Week sale has started.  Time to stock up on her patterns because e-Week is just once a year and what is offered changes.  Some of the designs are brand new, some have been seen but never offered.  If you are a counted thread person, this is a Must Visit sale.  Make sure you read the E-Week News & Views section if you plan to buy anything, or if your favorite GAR design isn't pictured.
http://www.gayannrogers.com/site_2/Home_Page.html

Because it is Halloween, how about a monster scissors fob?  The growling bead cracks me up but there is a more traditional Halloween fob at her Etsy store.
http://mymarkdesigns.wordpress.com/2010/10/12/rarw-monster-fobs/

Finally, Stitcher's Workshop is having a big sale this weekend, starting Friday.  If you are in Arkansas, please visit.  If not, an Internet visit will do.
