It's a Good Day for Counting

Needle Artworks has just announced new websites for both Genny Morrow Designs and Ann Strite-Kurz!   The late Genny Morrow is best known for her NOVA but she created many lovely and classic designs for counted canvaswork fans.  Her site isn't quite ready yet but bookmark this for a fun visit--or ten.

Backgrounds: The Finishing Touch is Reborn

I just heard from Ruth Schmuff that my favorite book from Ann Strite-Kurz is being reprinted.  It's called Backgrounds:  The Finishing Touch.  This is a fabulous backgrounds book if you are interested in intricate patterns built up in layers.  Ann specializes in these, as folks who subscribe to Needlepoint Now know since she has a recurring column in the magazine about the patterns she loves to create.  This particular book comes with a CD that illustrates the book lavishly, which I personally find very inspirational.  You can read the book next to your computer, then open the PDF file to that section and browse the photographs. Ann knows everyone from years of teaching and her friends generously allowed her to photograph their work.

If you are interested in picking up a copy, Ann is going to offer a twenty percent discount on this book (she has many others--another favorite of mine is her Science of Canvas Embroidery booklet) until June 1, and there will be free shipping if you order three or more copies in case you want to go in with your friends on the deal.

New Designs from Ann Strite-Kurz

This is a very good day for fans of counted thread and blackwork patterns--Ann Strite-Kurz has four new patterns available!   The first is a cute Halloween standup covered in Ann's signature complex patterns.  This was a class piece that is no longer being taught so it is available to anyone.

The second discontinued class piece is a stunning piece of blackwork called "Pappagallo Slipper."

The two brand new pieces are both Southwestern in theme.  The first is "Desert Silhouette," based on the traditional Mexican star quilt pattern with a twist.

Thread Inventory Spreadsheets

Three different folks have thread inventories online for stitchers to use to keep track of what threads they have in their person stashes.  The first site is a collaboration between Linda K. Reinmiller and Susan Johnson.  Linda has a series of thread brand inventory spreadsheets in Excel plus links to Susan's Google Documents spreadsheets on her teaching website.  Here is where you can find it. Note that Linda is constantly working on updating and adding information.  When new lists or updated lists are available, she posts a notice on the ANG email list.

The last set of inventory sheets are courtesy of Needle Artworks which has maintained this since the late Jennifer Ashley Taylor set up the site until now under Ruth Schmuff's new ownership.  The pages are meant to be printed out and kept in a notebook.

Mysteries, Candy and More

I'm getting a backlog of things to tell Blog readers about, so let me list them now before I forget or they become outdated:

We have a mystery to solve.  Do any counted canvasworkers detectives recognize the top design at the link below?  The Needleart Nut is trying to identify it so she can get the directions and finish it.  The bottom piece is Crown of Hearts by Jean Hilton and Pat's already got the chart to complete that.  But the top piece is still unidentified.

How long has it been since you visited Needle Artworks?  This is the best place to pick up Genny Morrow, Marion Scoular, or Ann Strite-Kurz designs, plus they offer a gateway to the always popular Carole Lake notebook classes.  There's a lot more to find (like the beautiful Luan Callery stumpwork kits) and the revamping of the site shows it all off beautifully.  The design above is Ann S-K's lovely Red Japanese Lantern, by the way.
