Amy's Full of News

Amy's shop newsletter is out for August-September and it is full of news! Not only does Amy reveal her new Home Study of four canvases based on the story of Scheherazade and the 1001 Arabian Nights, she shows off two new stitch guides that are newly available and two new stitch guides that are underway.  Plus there are new magnets and a magnetic laying tool, and Amy announced her Amy's Book Club for 2015.  The first "book" in the series is the Mystery of Needlepoint.  No, I have no idea what this means, either,  Amy, you are SUCH a tease!

In case you haven't seen any of the new Sherlock series, here's a bit from the first season of the BBC's Sherlock.  The first of three episodes from Season Two aired on PBS's Mystery last night. We taped it and will watch it this evening but I suspect it'll be available for streaming online as well.

Fortunately I have beading and basketweave to do!  I'm trying to decide whether to introduce a few crystal beads to the gunmetal gray ones in a few places that need highlights at the bottom of Luna's hem.  Any opinions?

I am going to continue a black section of the gown while I ponder this and revisit "The Blind Banker" in PBS' Sherlock series.  I have to say I have a lot of sympathy with Dr. Watson whose first date with a lady he meets at his temp job goes very very wrong!

By the way, fellow bloggers who use Blogger.com will be interested in the article below about photo storage limits.  I've started to clear out duplicate photos and photos from the Canvas of the Day that are stored in my Blogger album since it was nearly half full.  Eventually I won't be able to upload photos if I don't delete some, so don't be surprised if some photos disappear from articles.  I'm deleting ones I think unimportant to the narrative to make room for more.

Madame X

The main reason I wanted to stitch one of Leigh's Ladies of the Night series is the challenge of working a piece with so much black on it.  How on earth do you stitch a piece with black hair against a black gown with a black cloak and black birds and not have it be a blot of black ink?  Of course Leigh Designs separates these areas through the use of gray and purple, but still....

I hope the use of texture will make the black areas separate.  I'm not sure you will be able to see the differences I put into the canvas except in person but I am going to try.

This is one source of inspiration--John Singer Sargent's Madame X portrait.  Isn't that gown amazing?!
