How to Color Your Canvas

While wandering around Etsy, I stumbled across Diane Grant's shop and her instructions on how to color your canvas with acrylic paints.  It sounds like a fun summer project to try!

If you like counted canvaswork, Diane also has some fun charts to browse and several small books on specialty Hilton-type stitches.  She's in the UK but shipping is usually pretty easy if you aren't.

Another Paternayan Source

I just stumbled across a recommendation of a shop that has Paternayan and also sells blank needlepoint canvas.  It looks like they just have 10 and 12 count in stock, though.

Florilegium.com is not a needlepoint shop; it's more of a crafts and knitting place but Gretchen loves needlepoint and it looks like they might have some unusual trims and buttons.

How Do Shops Tape Canvas Edges?

Debbie Rowley gives us a glimpse behind the door at the gadget shops use to tape the edges of canvases they sell.

She also uses electric scissors to cut canvas.  If you aren't a teacher or shop owner, you probably don't need either of these things but it is fun to discover how all this is done.

Taping Your Needlepoint Canvas: A Tutorial

Needlepoint for Fun has added to their collection of useful How To articles with one about taping the raw edges of your needlepoint canvas.
http://www.needlepoint-for-fun.com/how-to-tape-your-needlepoint-canvas-edges.htm

Personally, I look for wide bias tape that's been folded down the middle at places like Joann's Fabrics.  Slip it over your edge and sew it down with the machine.  Easy!

Repair a Cut Canvas with Dental Floss

Needlepoint for Fun explains how to repair a small cut on canvas with dental floss.
http://www.needlepoint-for-fun.com/how-to-repair-cut-needlepoint-canvas.htm

I've never repaired a cut canvas this way (although it looks like a good sturdy repair for a small area). I prefer the patch method, which I demonstrated in the link below. I feel it is best for an item that will get some wear, such as a pillow or even a chair seat.

Whichever route you take, your needlepoint will be ok again.  No one will ever know!
