Jinny Barney of Needlepoint.com just finished a fox ornament from Pip and Roo for her Christmas tree. She writes about it on her blog and included some good tips for doing turkeywork.

It turned out great!

A Vintage Hunt Country Find
Labels:

Horse Country Chic found this great fox hunt needlepoint piece on Etsy. It is signed with initials and the date 1949. Looks like it was mounted on a piece of scrap cardboard of the right size instead of being framed. What do you think?

Today's the Spring Equinox, i.e., the First Day of Spring! [loud cheering from the peanut gallery]
To celebrate here is Eye Candy's Spring Fox, all stitched up! Love pink and I love that tiny pink bow, not to mention the tiny pink blossoms on the tree.

It's a lovely way to welcome spring. Thanks for sharing, Ada. You cheered me as I watch the snow come down.

Hannah's Sampler (Berlin Woolwork)
The Embroiderers Association of Canada has a section of their website dedicated to historic samplers from their collection. This includes Hannah's Sampler, which is a wool Berlin woodwork piece. Click on the small photo to see a large photo and read about Hannah Renshaw Gaskill's stitching.

Tanja Proves My Point
This morning I got an email from Berlin Embroidery about Tanja Berlin's latest needle painting cyberclass--the red fox. The class starts in February and lasts roughly two months. If you are interested in learning to create realistic animals with just DMC cotton floss in long and short stitches, this is the class for you.

How to Embroider a Fox or Bead a Star
Ever wanted to embroider a fox? Kris Degrave takes you through the process step by step. It's a great tutorial on animal faces and how to use colors to create a realistic critter.

Canvases for the Hunt Set
Chilly Hollow isn't too far from the center of what is called Hunt Country here in Virginia. Think grand estates, horses, trees and exotic farm animals everywhere, stone fences that run for miles and of course, the extremely wealthy. This area features fox hunting, horse tack, and of course dogs. In my limited experience the folks who live Hunt Country are usually conservative needlepointers but there is nothing wrong with that. Who doesn't love a nice belt in basketweave occasionally? That's the best meditation I know.

The Hunt Bathroom UPDATED FOR FOX LOVERS
Labels:
foxes,
Hunt Country Yarns,
rugs
Here's a lovely rug, made especially for a small guest bathroom here in Hunt Country.
http://horsecountrychic.blogspot.com/2012/03/fox-needlepoint-rug.html
UPDATE: Goldy liked this so much I went searching for more fox canvases. So I wrote this as a comment, then decided to post it here.
I thought it was a lovely rug, perfect for a tiny bathroom. Critter Cove needs such a rug!
Or maybe a wall hanging or pillow? These are classic William Morris designs by Beth Russell.
http://www.bethrussellneedlepoint.com/needlepoint/forest.htm
Maybe instead of walking on a fox rug you want to walk with foxes?
http://www.aandlhome.com/-strse-2846/fox-in-wreath-needlepoint/Detail.bok
This place sells ready made fox pillows in lots of designs.
http://www.villagehouse.net/sporting-life-needlepoint-pillows.html
Besides more traditional fox designs, NP.com has a fox game board and a foxhunt Santa!
http://www.needlepoint.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=fox
This Valentina fox in the snow piece is gorgeous.
http://store.needlenook.com/JB-Night-Fox-p23029.html
It's big, though. How about dede's baby fox?
http://store.needlenook.com/Dede-s-Needleworks-Baby-Fox-p35068.html
This fox and hunt horn is traditional in a non-traditional way.
http://store.needlenook.com/JP-Needlepoint-Fox-In-Horn-p28998.html
If you just want a fox sign, how about this?
http://store.needlenook.com/Julia-s-Needleworks-Over-Forty-Still-Foxy-p29111.html
If all else fails, call Bob at Hunt Country Yarns. Although Bob's shop is primarily for knitters, he stocks a great many fox/hunt/dog/horse designs and a lot of his customers do rugs. He's a great resource!
