Vintage Needlepoint

Horse Country Chic is doing a little window shopping for vintage needlepoint.

These are kits with wool but you can easily substitute some or all of the threads in the kit for suitiable colors in that nice stash you have been collecting. I think most of these are from Etsy, although I haven't checked.  I'm avoiding temptation!

These are one-of-a-kind now, so if you see something that calls to you, better snap it up.

The Equestrian Wreath

Horse Country Chic is horse-mad--and mad for needlepoint--so she was charmed by this equestrian-themed wreath covered in ornaments.

Its a lovely idea, whether you love bird ornaments, Christmas ones, ornaments for dogs and cats--whatever you love can go on an ornament for display all year.

For the Equestrian

If you ride, love horses, or just live in a horse-mad area like I do, you'll enjoy browsing the Horse Country Chic's current crop of horse needlepoint finds.

You might also enjoy Three Thimble Designs' horse items.

My Needlepoint Corner has a darling printed horse canvas that would be perfect in tent stitches using threads from your stash.

Froopy has a stylized horse in preppy colors that is great fun.

There are many beautiful horse canvases by more established designers but I thought maybe today I'd focus on new designers with things you might not have seen before.  Have fun browsing!

Horse Country Chic Loves Christmas Ornaments UPDATED

Horse Country Chic is in love with these Christmas ornaments.  Most are horse-themed but all are perfect for the elegant country house even if you don't ride.

UPDATE:  She's added a new series of ornaments, many brand new, and a recommendation to get yourself a copy of Mary Legallet's book.

UPDATE #2:  More!

Horse Country Chic Talks Handbags

If you want a real statement needlepoint piece, stitch a handbag.  Horse Country Chic has a lovely posting up with great photos of various handbag styles.
https://horsecountrychic.blogspot.com/2020/08/creating-needlepoint-handbag.html

I'm partial to Melissa Shirley's purse designs which are usually based on the natural world and to…
http://melissashirleydesigns.com/galsearch/?searchstring=purses&Search=Search&dosearch=

...the big carpet bag styles from Julie Pischke Designs.
https://juliepischkedesigns.com/product-category/carpet-bags/

All these are best done in tent stitches in my opinion.  Otherwise your beautiful stitching will snag as you carry these.

How to Avoid Blocking

Horse Country Chic has a great tip for stitchers who hate blockinguse your steamer to straight your needlepoint instead.
http://horsecountrychic.blogspot.com/2020/07/post-pandemic-self-reliance-that-would.html

I don't have a steamer but if I did, I'd try this and then put the canvas on a blocking board while it is still soft from the steam.  If you have even tension just steaming might be enough.

Horse County Chic Goes on a Buying Spree

Horse Country Chic is stocking up on painted canvases.  I suspect most of us are, both trying to keep our favorite shops afloat, and give us something nice to look forward to.

Even I bought something for the first time in about three years—my Pharaoh canvas from Leigh Designs!

Tricia Heaton Designs Stitching for a Cause

Horse Country Chic has a sweet story about the donations Tricia Heaton Designs is making towards an equestrian school to help the students come back after the corona virus ends.

If you like classic designs, here is the Tricia Heaton website.  Have fun browsing all the wonderful things you can buy straight from the artist and her friends.

Making a Hat Band the Easy Way UPDATED

Horse Country Chic is making a hat band for a straw hat.
http://horsecountrychic.blogspot.com/2020/04/my-needlepoint-hat-band-project.html

She makes it look easy, too.  Tent stitched projects are so soothing right now.  Hopefully you can find something fun you want to stitch for a hat band of your very own.

UPDATE:  Here is her hat band finished. Neat!

Etsy Horse Needlepoint

Horse Country Chic loves horses and loves needlepoint, so naturally needlepoint with horses is a prime favorite for her.  She's using her free time to browse Etsy for good horse needlepoint and is sharing her finds.
http://horsecountrychic.blogspot.com/2020/04/more-great-etsy-needlepoint-bargains.html

Aren't horse mad?  How about dogs?  Cats?  Flowers?  Do a few searches for your favorites on Etsy? It's a good way to pass some free time and you might find a really fabulous design, perhaps even kitted out with threads, to give you or someone you love a way to keep hands busy when you are anxious.

Easter on Etsy

Horse Country Chic has done a little spring and Easter canvas browsing on Etsy and come up with some really fun rabbit, dog, and horse canvases.
http://horsecountrychic.blogspot.com/2020/03/needlepoint-on-etsy.html

The belts are a good deal and perfect stress release stitching as they are in basketweave.  You can do that practically in your sleep if your brain is currently fried and have a good belt to wear this fall to remember your time at home by.

Pucci Needlepoint

Horse Country Chic is an admirer of the original Emilo Pucci designs so she was charmed to discover there were needlepoint kits in the mid-1970s made under Pucci's supervision.
http://horsecountrychic.blogspot.com/2020/02/preference-for-pucci.html

https://www.nytimes.com/1976/10/08/archives/needlepoint-from-pucci.html

These are no longer available but they do turn up on eBay and other auction sites periodically.

If you want Pucci-inspired painted canvases, check Sally Corey, Kate Dickerson, Janet Gregg, and Julie Mar's offerings.
