New Self-Finishing News

The January newsletter from New Jersey Needle Artists chapter of ANG is out and it's full of news and new products.

The new self-finishing wallets from Planet Earth and the retro travel tag's new swivel clip from Hedgehog caught my eye.  Self-finishing is where it's at these days, and designers are coming up with all sorts of goodies for us.

By the way, I've heard one of Evan Burrough's family members have retired from making Evertites so he's having trouble keeping up with orders.  They're still in business, just far behind.

Mindy's Self Finishing Items to Browse

If you are thinking about trying self-finishing items, you'll want to look at the Pocket Full of Stitches trunk show of Mindy items on their blog today.
http://pocketfullofstitches.blogspot.com/2020/09/mindy-trunk-show-wallets-boxes.html

They are featuring various styles of wallets, boxes and purses plus luggage tabs and credit card cases.  While the shop has the trunk show, they can help you with canvases that will fit these.  A friend had seen the wallets in person and says they are fabulous.  Mindy also has dragonfly lacquered boxes with a space in the lid for a canvas.  You can see those on her website.  You can also buy directly from Mindy's shop which she runs as well as her design business.

More styles are pictured on Mindy's Facebook account.  Have fun looking!

Are You a Fan of Spartina Bags?

Spartina has new "needlepoint" bags. They look like they were stitched overseas and the needlepoint combined with leather.  They are fun and a good way to carry a needlepoint purse until you have time to stitch your own.  Thanks for the tip, Dell!

If you prefer to stitch your own, check out the Thorn Alexander canvas that Jinny stitched and had made into a fabulous clutch bag.

Not all of us have any use for a clutch purse but how about a wallet?  Mindy has some new "mini" designs that you can buy with a matching ladies' wallet.

Use the left side arrow for more photos.  Mindy says the dimensions of the wallets are four and a half inches across, three inches down, and one and three-quarters inch deep.  There are 12 colors available.  The inserts are 18 count and are two by two and three-quarter inches.

Town and Country Gives Permission to Wear Needlepoint

Thanks to Jane V. who mentioned this on Facebook, I have an online article from Town and Country counting all the neat needlepoint wearables available.

They don't mention you can stitch these yourself for less money and a higher quality, not to mention getting precisely what you want.  But once again we discover we needlepointers are trendy as all get out.

Here's a bit more about Tucker Blair's goods.

Here is the Smathers and Branson website.

Just in case you feel the need to go preppy without the fun of stitching these things, you know.

Jenny Henry DIY

Jenny Henry Designs has reworked her cute "Red Cassette" canvas into a wristlet or wallet for her customers.  Tara's instructions are easy to follow if you want to try this at home with either her design or another of similar size.

Here's the Jenny Henry website if you want to check out the original Red Cassette or see other similar pieces.  Most of Jenny Henry designs have to be ordered via a shop, but the second link below is to the Etsy page where Tara sells some little kits (coasters, jewelry, magnets and the Red Cassette kit).

Pangea as a Tote Bag (More Finishing Friday)

Thanks to Sue Dulle, I heard about Kurdy Biggs' latest design, Pangea, made up as a tote bag and stitcher's tool wallet. It's magnificent!
http://www.threedles.com/06012011/2013/Pangea/Pangea_BagAndWallet.html

Here is the charted design in its three colorways devised by Kurdy herself.  Her work is astounding in person.  Photos don't capture the complexity or show the crystals and beads she uses.

By the way, the Needleart Nut is stitching Kurdy's Mariposa butterfly if you want to see how the design develops.  Pat is doing hers on a custom dyed canvas.
