The NYT Spots NP at the Republican National Convention UPDATED

Breaking News: Christine's Osterville Needlepoint Has Been Sold

Dear Fellow Needlepointers,

With mixed emotions, after 29 + years, I have sold my retail store to Joyce Gresh, one of our customers. I have so enjoyed meeting and working with you all through the years. My love of needlepoint continues to this day. It has been a true pleasure starting the store in 1986 and watching it grow - adding new fibers and designers over the years and moving to our current location.

Joyce will be using our original name "Osterville Needlepoint Shop" so continue to visit when you are on the Cape. Vicki and Barbara are still there to assist you.

I am going to devote more time to my husband, needlepointing, and my wholesale business "CBK Needlepoint Collections". The wholesale operation has moved from the loft area to the lower level so feel free to visit (follow the blue handrail in the back of the building).

Thank you for all of your years of support and I wish you all the best.

Repousse Tail UPDATED

Ruth Schmuff just posted progress photos on her newest mystery class, based on Michele Noiset's "Sitting Pretty."  Not only is it fun to see what Ruth's come up with to embellish the canvas, she throws in a free repousse lesson in case you need to add a dimensional line to your canvas.   The candlestick is pretty durn cool, too.

Needlepoint for College

Ridgewood has posted an unusually variety collection of college-themed ornaments and mini socks on their blog today. I thought you'd like to see the variety available. Some of the mini stockings are from Kathy Schenkel but I don't know who did the round ornaments. Regardless, these are a pretty and quick stitch for the college girl or guy in your life.

Snowball Fight!

Suzanne of the Hugs and Stitches blog just hit a home run with her latest canvas from Scott Church Creative/CBK. It's a squirrel caught in the middle of a snowball fight!

She got the dimension of the piece just right, balancing all the heavier elements like the tail and scarf and snowballs with heavier background and ground stitches.  Nothing really outshines any other part so that the entire design is unified.  This is the kind of thing we stitchers aim for--every bit is perfect and works with every other bit.

There isn't anything I don't love about this piece, from the beaded dimensional snowballs to the fluffy turkey work tale to the hand knit silk scarf.  Here is the original Scott Church needlepoint canvas, just to help you see how Suzanne brought this to life.

Going to the Dogs

Goodbye to Edie

If you've been stitching a while you probably have seen a canvas by Edie and Ginger.  They came up with the frog-shaped frame weight, and have a huge range of ageless designs that range from their large and beautiful fairy tale canvases, to classic Victorian themed Christmas stockings, to fun things like their London bus door stop or the iconic glasses cases patterns they produced.  Edie and Ginger gave us a legacy of wonderful designs that needlepointers will be stitching as long as we can get our hands on the canvases.  They set the standard in their day and the death of Edie Dockray on November 16 was the end of an important era in the World of Needlepoint.  I hope you'll join me in honoring their contribution to our art.
