Bored stuck at home? Then watch this video of Jody Valentine of Jody Designs showing how she paints the canvases she sells in her Etsy store.

If nothing else it will give you a good idea of how hand painted canvases are made and why they are as expensive as they are.
Jody has posted a second video today about her basketweave rug that she stitches from stash.

Setting Up The Studio and Looking for the Thread UPDATED

storage
Jody Valentine of Jody Designs has just moved, so she has been painting and then organizing her new studio. This is what it looks like now that most of the boxes are opened and everything has a place. Jody has lots of great organizational tips. Wish I had a space like this!
http://jodydesigns.typepad.com/jodyinthestudio/2013/07/studio-2-supplies.html
UPDATE: Of course having everything put away doesn't mean it is easy to get at. Poor Jody is doing some reorganizing.
http://jodydesigns.typepad.com/jodyinthestudio/2013/08/-studio-2-organizing.html
If you would like to see more, click on the blue title to the left of "Main" just below the header and you will move backward in time to see the studio as it was put together.
Robin of Hilary Jean Designs is very organized with a craft closet I envy greatly. Of course just because you are organized it doesn't mean that you can actually FIND something!

trunk shows
The Enriched Stitch just opened and already they are taking sign ups for classes. The really neat thing is that they allow folks to sit in on class remotely via Skype. Here are the classes that are planned for right away. Email the shop for more details and how to use Skype to sit in on the class. By the way, click on What We're Up To for more glimpses of the class models. They are also having a Jody trunk show.

UPDATE: Enriched Stitch is eager to have Skype students so if you want to take one of the classes via the Internet video connection that Skype provides, let them know ASAP.
By the way, Barbara Bergsten herself is going to participate.

Facebook Postings UPDATED
Labels:
BeStitched,
Facebook,
Jody Designs,
Jody Valentine,
sales,
trunk shows
Facebook postings are starting to take the place of website updates since anyone who can handle a digital camera can upload photos to their Facebook site without the specialized knowledge it takes to build, maintain or modify a website. So if you have a Facebook account, keep an eye on your favorite shops. Bestitched in Arizona is having a sale on canvases that ends today, December 31. Photos and prices are on their FB page. If I didn't log into a Facebook account and check up on them, I wouldn't have known about the sale.
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.245922422143360.55158.126229327446004&type=1
I am not wild about Facebook myself. It's complicated to use, things keep changing and privacy is chancy. But it is a great way to keep up with what the shops are doing.
UPDATE: BeStitched told me (via FB of course!) that the sale canvases on their FB page will be on sale until January 6 due to popular demand. So take a look at your bank account and see what you can pick up before then.

Woodlawn 2011
If you need a little Irish green this morning, check out Jody's newest shamrocks design.
http://jodydesigns.typepad.com/jodyinthestudio/2011/03/needlepoint-shamrocks-in-the-round.html
Pocket Full of Stitches is having a Cooper Oaks trunk show. They have posted a ton of bright canvases from the designers which you can see in these two links. UPDATE: PFOS has added a third, fourth and fifth blog entry on this trunk show so I've added new links.

In Woodlawn news, Susan writes of her fun day out with a friend. There's not much about the actual needlework exhibit, but she has information about a bead shop close to Woodlawn Plantation that those who are planning on visiting will want to check out.
http://plays-with-needles.blogspot.com/2011/03/meeting-elizabeth.html
Remember, turn left exiting Woodlawn and drive through two sets of traffic lights. You'll see a McDonald's in the strip mall on the right. Turn there and look to the right when you are facing McDonald's. That's where In Stitches is located. The shop carries counted thread and knitting supplies as well as a good number of painted canvases. They have lots of threads and tools and it's a wonderful shopping experience before or after the show.
