Creating a Plump Little Bunny

Sharon of SM Wollman Designs just posted a video of the little bunny her Ann Hanson (I think) Santa is holding.   Sharon used trapunto to make the rabbit rounded and dimensional.

It's an easy technique.  Note that she stitched the bunny as usual first, then she pinned a rectangle of muslin to the back of the canvas behind Mr. Bunny.  (You can cut the slit in the middle before you pin it on if you are nervous about cutting the canvas when you slit the muslin after it is attached.)  Then you turn the canvas back over and backstitch around the shape of the rabbit.  Normally I use one ply of cotton floss in either a matching or contrasting color, depending on whether I want a bit of a shadow or not.  It helps to make your backstitches small and pretty close together.  Once the muslin is backstitched into place, stuff the muslin with as much padding (I use cotton batting) as needed to make the bunny rounded and dimensional as you want, then stitch the slit together to close it.

It's quite easy to do and gives a lovely effect.

Queens Court: Winter Mystery at Bedecked and Beadazzled

New Classes from Tony and Brenda

I don't normally list classes here (it's a ton of work and very few people look at the tab I used to maintain) but these two classes at Chandail Needlework are special. So here goes! First up, Tony Minieri has a new counted piece that he's starting to teach. It's called "Mumtaz Mahal" and appears to be one of his designs inspired by ethnic fabrics.

If you are interested in the classes, check with the shop.  I don't know if they allow "ghosts."  Ghosts are people taking a class long distance instead of being in the shop for it.  Normally ghost students are mailed the class materials once the class ends so that any changes or clarifications that come up during the actual class can be added to the kit.

Ridgewood Needlepoint just got a shipment of double-sided bunnies in the shop. These remind me of the MCM two-sided dressed rabbits that had the sweetest faces that are no longer available.  If you are a MCM fan, you might want to look into these.  Ridgewood doesn't say who the designer is. Sorry.  I'd like to credit them for these very nice rabbits.
