The Cajun Navy Ornament

You may not have heard of the Cajun Navy, an informal group of folks from Louisiana with boats who rush to flooding disasters and pull folks to safety. I have because during last year's Hurricane Harvey, they recued a friend of mine.  Now there is an ornament celebrating their service and bravery, available from Nashville Needleworks.  A donation is made to the Hurricane Relief Fund every time you buy one of these, too.

Traveling with Needlepoint

This is not what you think. Instead of taking about taking needlepoint with you in your suitcase, I have two articles about Robin King's travels to teach needlepoint. It's a fun look at shops from the eyes of a teacher.  First, Robin drove to Nashville Needlepoint from Memphis.  It's further than you'd think.  Tennessee is a long state.  When I was a little girl it took ten hours to drive from the east side to the west side.  With the Interstates in place, you might make it in eight hours now.  Luckily Robin only had to go from the west side to the middle of the state.

For her next trip, Robin headed to Atlanta.  This time she flew right into the heart of Southern Hospitality.   It's more powerful than a hurricane, the Southern woman welcoming you into her home!  Robin had a great time here, too.

The photo above is a Lani Santa collage canvas which Carolyn Baird Hedge will teach at Chaparral starting in January.  This will be taught in sections and the class will end in August of 2011 so there will be plenty of time to make it up for Christmas next year.  I grabbed the photo from Chaparral's latest newsletter since it isn't on their project page yet.

Needle House in Houston has a varied selection of previous clubs to choose from and they allow you to just buy the guide or just the canvas or the guide/thread kit.  Your choice!  (Click on the photos for a better look.)

Needlepoint in Paradise (that would be Naples, Florida) is starting a boot club and a star club for 2011.

Several designers have series that you can stitch to make your own club.  This is more fun for folks with a big stash or who have a nice shop nearby to find threads at, but it is a good option for the adventuresome stitcher.  First up is The Nativity from Mile High Princess.
