Removing Creases from Needlepoint Canvas: The Movie

Penny Linn has posted a video on their Facebook page explaining how to get creases out of needlepoint canvas.

To summarize for those who don't have a FB account, get a clean white towel, put the canvas down on top of the towel near an edge, then fold over the towel to make a sandwich of towel-canvas-towel.  Use an iron on the cotton/wool setting and press down on the towel.  Go over the entire canvas area with the iron.  You may have to do this several times.  They don't mention using steam, but you can, although it softens the canvas threads slightly so the piece is no longer quite as stiff.  Probably better to just use pretty high heat on your iron.

New Scallop Frames from Penny Linn

Penny Linn has new scallop acrylic frames.  They are either round or square, hold 4 inch pieces, and come in frost white, pastel pink or blue.  It looks like they have a back piece that snaps on to hold your finished ornament in place.

Penny Linn Hit by Copyright Theft

Penny Linn has just announced via Instagram that she's been hit for a while by a copycat of her acrylic pieces.  The video explains in detail the timeline of her creation of her acrylic line and how it has been copied and sold to her customers.  Since her copyright has just been granted by the U.S. Patents Office, I imagine a lawsuit is in the works.

In support of Penny Linn, I have removed all mentions of "Company M" from Blog.  If you notice non-Penny Linn magnetic acrylics for sale, please take screen shots and send them to Penny Linn so she can contact the store involved since they are also liable in a court of law.

The August Report from NJNA

The New Jersey Needle Artists Chapter of ANG charms us again with their August 2024 newsletter.

Besides the usual new product (a very nice large nylon tote from Penny Linn and a big canvas one from Chaparral), SCT's new charted monogram book, a new designer (DBL Designs, distributed by Atlantic Blue), classes, clubs, a tour of Morgan Julia's new studio space, we learn that KC Needlepoint will do a plain zippered clutch in only three weeks.  Plus Ellen Johnson divides us into four groups according to our needlepoint style.  I'm eclectic.  What are you?

A New Cross Body Clutch from Penny Linn

Penny Linn is debuting self finishing cross body clutches today.  They are hand made in the Philippines by Likha.  There are three colors (the brown one varies a bit in shade), a thin gold chain if you need your hands free, a mother of pearl clasp, and satin lining.  A piece of fusible interfacing is included to protect the back of your stitching.  (It's just ironed on.)

Since these are launching after I wrote this, here's the link to the Penny Linn website's home page. Hopefully we'll learn what size insert works with the new clutches then.

Penny Linn Designs Has Charts!

Penny Linn Designs, like all needlepoint designers, discontinues designs that don't sell well.   They've decided to turn these discontinued painted designs into charts to help make needlepoint more affordable.  I think it's a brilliant idea!  After all, money's tight these days.  Plus there is a minority of needlepointers who prefer working from a chart who now can stitch Penny Linn favorites.

You can see Penny Linn's digital downloads here, as well as blank canvas, templates for helping mark out the edge of your ornament, marking pens, etc.

Penny Linn Designs' Scissors

I didn't realize Penny Linn Designs has scissors as well as canvases and self finishing purses.  The crane style comes in red or blue, both lovely.

There's also a pair of bamboo handle scissors with larger holes for those who like that style.

A New Self Finishing Satchel UPDATED

The Wool and The Floss is taking pre-orders (delivery in February) for a new self-finishing satchel with a cutout for a 4 inch round design.   There's a good description on The Wool and The Floss' website.

The satchel is from Penny Linn Designs which also sells a tote bag in two sizes with room for a rectangular canvas that is either 5x2 or 6x3, depending on the overall dimensions of the tote.

And Penny Linn has a wristlet with a 4x4 round ornament opening.  There are lots of choices of size and style, in other words.

UPDATE:  Penny Linn has a nice cross body purse meant to have a monogram stitched on the 13 count front.  Check all the photos below the big photo to see what the purse looks like.

Needlepoint Knot Headbands

Looks like headbands are back in style!  Penny Linn sells kits, either with or without threads.

The Penny Linn website has a tutorial on how to assemble them, too. The instructions are included in the kits but if you have a belt you'd like to finish this way, you can buy the instructions separately.
