Look What Libby Did UPDATED

Fans of Libby Sturdy's Just Libby canvases will be interested to hear what she designed for the Governor's Mansion in Springfield, Illinois.

UPDATE:  Just realized I forgot to add a link to Libby's website so folks who are new to her designs can have fun browsing.  Some of Libby's designs are painted, some are line drawings with instructions on how to fill in each section with stitches.  A few designs are available either way.  All are fun and fabulous!

It's Just Libby

Pocket Full of Stitches is showcasing Libby Sturdy on their blog. It's a great way to flip through a bunch of Libby's designs quickly and see the wide range of her work, done mostly on line drawn canvases with a stitch guide, so you can raid your stash for threads and have a great stitching time without having to buy many threads. They are durn cute, to boot!

Libby Sturdy's Just Libby website is a fun place to explore if the above hasn't sated you.  Libby teaches, also creates hand painted designs, and has had several new pieces in Needlepoint Now lately.  I am envious of her talent but so glad she has so many great Santas, teapots cottages, and other wonderful whimsical designs for us to play with.

Old Websites with New Faces

Holly Berry Snowman from Just Libby
Yesterday's canvas of the day was a particularly fun one--a Just Libby snowman!  Libby Sturdy does line drawn canvases that come with a stitch guide so that you fill in the areas of the outline with specified threads and stitches to create something wonderful. Libby's updated her website recently and reorganized things so you can find the various subjects she stitches easily.

Gay Ann Rogers is always changing her website to reflect the seasons and the designs she is promoting.  This month she plans to sell some of her old heart charts and is posting new photos of her hearts to her website daily.  She is asking folks to let her know which ones they'd like to see in the sale.  This allows her to build excitement for the sale yet not have to print out instructions for hearts that folks don't want to buy instructions for.  To see the show, go to the GAR website and then click on Hearts Gallery.  Each day new designs will be added.

The moral is to keep checking your favorite websites.  Makeovers happen there all the time!

Most Wanted

This week I mentioned the Nordic Santa piece by As You Like It that set off a stampede of stitchers who wanted that design for their very own.

There are other designs that were equally popular which also set off a shopping frenzy.  I thought it would be fun to list the ones I remember and ask readers to post the ones they remember being wildly popular.  I'm curious just what these pieces have in common, if anything.

The first "Best Seller" I remember learning about was Marnie Ritter's plate series.  These designs were featured in the new defunct Needlepoint News/Needlepoint Plus magazine.  You can find these on eBay still and Marnie continues to publish new charted designs in Needlepoint Now magazine.  I love these designs and have the original Aurora Borealis kit in my stash.  You can see it as well as one of the other plate designs here.

Here's Marnie's website, by the way.  Although the older plate designs aren't listed, I think you can probably still charm her into kitting some of them up for you.

The other counted canvaswork designs that set up a buying frenzy every time a pattern shows up on eBay are the mystery designs by Loretta Spears.  Here is a prize winner from the 2001 ANG Seminar Exhibit.  I'm sorry, but I don't remember which mystery this was.

Libby Sturdy's Wine Country Santa was also a big hit.  Libby's pieces are line drawn canvases that come with instructions.  You have to supply the threads.  To see Wine Country Santa (Libby says it put both her kids through college), click on Products on the left, and then browse the list of titles. Click and there you go!

SharonG set off a storm when she introduced her Tuscan landscape series several years back.  You can see them all by working your way through four pages of her Landscape and Abstract designs on her website.

The same thing happened when Melissa Shirley introduced her Wild Women designs.  She continues to add to the series. There are even some Wild Men included now!

Recently, Leigh Designs' Floozies (aided by stitch guides and thread packets from ThreadworX) have been wildly popular.

Ok, now your turn.  What designs do you remember taking the Needlepoint World by storm?

Fun with Finishing

Are you as entranced by finished NP pieces as I am?

Ruth at Becked and Beaddazzled has a new page full of finishing done through her shop. Choose a category and explore! There are custom boxes, fun little standup signs and lovely frames and purses, all finished in Ruth's cheerful and unusual style.

Speaking of finishing, you can see some finished pieces from Needle Works of Austin's customers on their blog. Some are made up and some have the stitching finished but the final touches not done yet. All are fascinating to see, especially for someone like me who rarely gets to see other stitchers' work except through the magic of the Internet.

On a slightly related topic, you can see finished models of the class projects Libby Sturdy is going to teach at Ruth's shop in late April. There is a teapot house (wonderful!) and two snowmen celebrating snow days (ditto). Libby works from line drawn canvases and her kits tell you exactly what to stitch where to have your version of her designs turn into something really great.

If you aren't familiar with Libby's designs, here is her website. Click on New Designs on the left side of the page for the latest fun if you are familiar with her work already. Otherwise, just click everywhere! LOL

Nice job everybody!
