A Free Heart Pattern from Tanja Berlin

With Valentine's Day rapidly approaching, I was thrilled to see Tanja Berlin has posted a free blackwork heart pattern on her website.  It is a PDF file.  Add it to your shopping cart (it costs nothing), check out and enjoy.

The pattern would make a lovely background, too!

The Valentine's Day Hearts Sale (Gay Ann Rogers)

Today is Valentine's Day and it is also the start of Gay Ann Rogers's Valentine Day sale of her kits.  Gay Ann's charted designs are feminine and beautiful and only sold a few times a year. Because it is Valentine's Day, a lot of her designs will be hearts.  The sale starts at 8 a.m. California time today.  Have fun exploring and seeing what treats Gay Ann got us for Valentine's!

A Bit About Copyright

I stumbled across an interesting article on copyright while looking at this fabulous website of antique Valentine cards.  It makes clear exactly why copying something old may not keep the lawyers from your door and shows several ways how something that seems ok, might not be.  There's very useful information in clear language here, but always consult a lawyer who specializes in copyright before you do something that could well bring you to court.

Friday Finishing: Perfect Fabrics and a Perfect Frame

These hearts and Queen of Hearts are all beautifully finished but the coordinating fabrics are what caught my eye. I think Stephanie herself came up with most of them.
http://stephsstitching.blogspot.com/2014/02/fantastic-finishing.html

Suzie worked with her framer to come up with the perfect custom frame for this Enriched Stitch retreat piece.  Isn't it lovely!?

By the way, Absolutely Needlepoint's tote bags from their Stitch of the Month program are starting to return from the finisher.  Aren't these lovely?  If you happen to be in Miami, watch for these out and about with their proud owners.

Hearts and Humbugs UPDATED

Diane's been taking time out to stitch little heart canvases from Associated Talents, using the stitch guides and kits provided by the French Knot in Fort Worth, Texas.  Aren't they perfect little Valentines?
http://dianestakingtimeouttoneedlepoint.blogspot.com/2013/01/i-heart-you.html

The stitch guides are all by the wildly talented Diana Bosworth.  You can see the entire series that Diana has done to date on the French Knot website.

In other spring design news, Ada Hayden shares how her Eye Candy humbugs are made up into the humbug shape.  You will have seen this pattern in Needlepoint Now if you subscribe, so Ada kindly explains how to make this up if you decided to stitch her design.

Linda of The Stitching Sisters is enjoying the Easter Egg series she has been stitching.  The eggs are from a club from The Needle House called From Russia With Love.  The canvases are designed by Renaissance Designs to be miniature Faberge eggs in needlepoint.  UPDATE:  Elizabeth, who is also stitching these, says the designer is A Collection of Designs.  Sorry for the error!

Patti Mann is re-releasing the Russian Nesting Doll Nativity set.  This is a Darcy Predmore design that Patti Mann distributes.   It's a wonderful series of nine canvases:  Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, the three Wise Men, the shepherd, a camel and an angel.  The pieces are all roughly  7 1/2 by 4 1/2 inches except for Baby Jesus which is only 3 1/2 by 5 inches.  Each piece is roughly $80.  If you are curious, these and other new pieces should be up on Patti Mann's website by early February.

A Valentine to Guilds

On February 14 I like to send a big Valentine to someone or something that has helped my stitching a lot in the last year. This year's love note goes to my ANG chapter, San Bernardino Chapter ANG. It is constantly encouraging the membership, whether local or long distance like me, to learn and grow as stitchers. The results are on this page. http://sbneedlepoint.org/gallery.html

If you have trouble with the slide show or want to study the great stitching, just click on the link under the slide show navigation bar to see everything laid out.

Actually, here's to all guilds and their local chapters. Where would we be without our fellow stitchers!?!

Hearts for My Valentines

He's Really Into Needlepoint
Today is Valentine's Day and in the spirit of the day, I want to announce my Valentines of 2011--the gentlemen who stitch.

Michael Boren, David McCaskill and Tony Minieri are all superb stitchers, designers and teachers who charm us with their talents and inspire us all to be better needlepointers.  There are gentlemen stitchers who don't teach such as Dr. Donn Hunter who lost his true Valentine in 2008 but who stitches on, inspiring me to get better and better with each piece.  Of course there is Jeff Kulick whose award-winning talent astounds me each year at Woodlawn with each new original design.  I will never forget the late Ray Dockstader, either.  I will miss him at Woodlawn each year I visit now that he's gone.
http://chillyhollownp.blogspot.com/2009/05/gone-but-not-forgotten-ray-dockstader.html

Then there are the wonderful Kirk & Hamilton guys and of course Raymond Crawford.  And who can forget Doug Kreinik or the gentlemen at Rainbow Gallery whose threads make us so happy?

And there's the young man in the top photo (from a literacy poster from the State Library of Iowa) who reminds us that stitchers come in all sizes and shapes.  Let's not overlook the unexpected stitcher who is hidden in that large man (or the little boy) you see at the counter at your shop.  Today they are our fellow stitchers and my Valentines.
http://www.statelibraryofiowa.org/ld/t-z/tell-library-story/Props/posters/he-is-into-needlepoint.pdf/view

If you wish to celebrate a male stitcher you know, please add him in the comments below.
