Bohin's Colorful Embroidery Scissors

Bohin is a French company known for their high quality stitching tools such as needles and seam rippers.  I didn't realize that they have colorful limited embroidery scissors, too.  Needle Nook of La Jolla carries some of their birds, cats, and Russian nesting dolls series.

The Bohin website shows all sorts of fun scissor patterns, including a seahorse, Eiffel Tower, lobster, octupus, squirrel, tiger, etc.  I haven't seen these in person so I can't judge their quality but they are relatively inexpensive.  Some Bohin decorated scissors would make a good present for your stitching bestie or something to tuck in a travel bag.

By the way, I found this gorgeous mother of pearl scissors fob while looking for Bohin scissors.

There are two versions, one with a larger clasp for regular scissors.

A Snippet on Scissors

Inspirations magazine has an interesting brief article on scissors in this week's e-newsletter.
https://mailchi.mp/inspirationsmagazine/embroidery-news-issue-461636?e=cb5b277f1f

There is a bit about the history of scissors and it discusses the various types of scissors and what works best for various needlework projects.  There's even a bit about why folks use scissor fobs.

Inspirations is an expensive but gorgeous magazine from Australia.  They do a weekly free newsletter that is also gorgeous.  I enjoy reading it each Friday morning when it lands in my email In Box.

Turkish Jewels Scissors Case, Fob and Needle Book

Bobbin and Fred has published the instructions for their needle book on their website.  The instructions for the scissors case and fob were in Needlepoint Now's November-December 2018 issue.
https://www.sewingwithbobbinandfred.co.uk/2018/11/new-pattern-turkish-jewel-scissor-pouch.html

All of the pieces of the set were sewn on 14 count plastic canvas so you can easily substitute 13 count needlepoint canvas if you prefer.  Plastic canvas is stiffer, of course, and the cut edges won't unravel.  Here's how to join pieces of plastic canvas together.

Free Scissor Fob Pattern

Colour Complements just posted a great free scissor fob pattern on their blog.  The design is by Susan and is in a PDF file. Susan used two colors of size 5 perle cotton from Colour Complements but of course you can raid your stash for what you need to stitch this on 18 count needlepoint canvas.

Many thanks to Susan and of course to Lorraine for her lovely threads!

How to Build a Scissors Fob

Orna Willis will show you how she builds her scissors fobs on her blog.  The detail in each is incredible!

I don't know if the examples she used will still be available in Orna's Etsy store, but lucky us--she has 33 scissor fobs there as I write this!

Southern Shops have STYLE

This morning I've been browsing the Needle Bug's online store.  I'd love to actually BE in Montgomery, a city with style and charm, but online shopping is the next best thing.   Right?  Check out the Snazzy Beading Kit.

How about a Needle Drop magnet to corral all your needles?  I have no idea how it works exactly but it is really cool looking!

How about the Chic Nine Inch Tool Pouch?  You can take that thing anywhere and be the most fashionable tool wrangler EVER!  (and it is on Sale--the Southern Belle's favorite four letter word)

How about a dragonfly scissors fob from Bead Soup?

Play Pretties from TJB Designs

I am pretty sure I've mentioned the lovely accessories that TJB Designs makes for needleworkers--the scissors fobs, the marking pins, the beaded laying tools and the stitch pickers--but they are worth mentioning again as we work up towards the gift-giving season. If you need a pretty thing for yourself or a friend, take a little browse among her Etsy store.

Bead Soup Fobs

The Needle Works has new scissors fobs in from Bead Soup. I love the little black cat one. Look at those eyes!

By the way, by the time this publishes I will be hard at work at the local polling place and won't be home until 9 p.m. at the earliest.  (In Virginia poll work starts at 5 a.m. and lasts until all the ballots cast match with the number of voters checked in, all the paperwork is signed, the ballot machines and the laptops are shut down and sealed, and all the tables, chairs are put away.  During that time, poll workers are not allowed to leave the polling place.)  So if you wrote me, don't expect an answer until tomorrow.

Go vote!

Knock Knock!

Knock knock! Who's there? It's Sheena with stitches for a Halloween door and door knocker.
http://www.sheenasstitches.com/door-knocker/

She's not feeling great right now (Send Good Thoughts people, rheumatoid arthritis is a horrible disease that is not life threatening but it certainly is life STYLE threatening!) but she is keeping busy inventing wonderful stitches and making some very cool scissors keepers that are prefect for those who need to keep their scissors handy.
