Breaking News: Essentials in 30 Yard Skeins

Do you like Planet Earth's Essentials by Tilli Thomas but don't like the fact that there is only 10 years of silk-wool on each card?  Not to worry!  Needle Bug in Montgomery, Alabama says that 30 yard skeins are now available.  This is great if you have a lot of background, for example.  The larger skeins aren't on the Needle Bug website yet but if your favorite shop doesn't have this, you can contact Needle Bug and ask about the colors you want.

No Flying Monkeys! UPDATED MORE

"No Flying Monkeys" from Point of It All Designs

A couple of weeks back I "shared" Park Avenue Needlepoint's posting of this darling canvas from their Facebook page with Facebook's Needlepoint Nation group because I thought it quite funny.  Turns out this is a design from Point Of It All Designs, created by Hyla Hurley.  It is 9x7 inches on 13 count canvas and a real charmer.

I am going to blog stitch this, with the permission of Hyla.  You'll be able to watch me figure out the background, come up with something neat for the lettering, and stitch those fabulous shoes and martini glass.  As Blog's motto says, "Watch me embellish painted canvases, make creative choices, fail, rip out, succeed, and learn new swear words--all at no charge."

Ode to Mobile

If you have friends in Mobile, Alabama (or just like the thought of gracious Southern living near the ocean), you will want to see the Kathy Schenkel ornament that Needle Bug in Montgomery has in their shop.   Stitch over the word Mobile to make this a Southern heritage piece.

It has been many years since I regularly made the long trek through the uninhabited wilderness between Montgomery and Mobile (and I ain't NEVER going back in July--I am a Southerner used to the heat but Mobile in summer resembles the surface of the sun) but this ornament takes me back to Alabama.  If your home is where your friends are, Alabama is my true home.

First Stitch a White Moth on White Canvas

Barbara Elmore is one of the more interesting designers of needlepoint we have working today. Her painted canvases are distributed by Sundance Designs and Barbara also teaches.  She specializes in special effects in her classes.  Here is what she did at Needle Bug in Montgomery.

First you stitch a white moth on white canvas.  Then Barbara has you watercolor the canvas and moth.  Then you stitch on top of the watercolors when they dry and I suspect there is a gold stencil or two involved as well.  I think I see beads, too.

Traveling with Santa

I write Blog articles way ahead of time, especially during the fall when I am usually very busy with holiday plans and getting the outside chores done before winter. Needle Bug's Back from Columbus

The staff at Needle Bug in Montgomery are home again from Columbus and sharing photographs of some of the wonderful things they saw there. The Ann Wheat Pace and Whimsey and Grace canvases are new to me.  They are beautiful and elegant in their similar color schemes.  Bet the Colors of Praise teapots canvas is very popular.

The TNNA Report: Friday Fun UPDATED

The first day at the TNNA show is Set Up Day. All the vendors spend the day hanging curtains, pinning up canvases on the curtain "walls" and setting up little tables and displays so that shop owners can see everything easily to order goodies to tempt their customers.  Robin is helping out at the Needle Deeva booth, so she took photos of everything as it went from huge empty hall to cozy display.  Looking at the photos, the first is Associated Talents with their spider leg stands, the second is Barbara Bergsten showing off her cheerful "shift" ornaments, and the last photos are of the Needle Deeva booth being born.
