The App for Working on Black Canvas

I've been remiss in posting a great tip from the counted canvaswork designer Brenda Kocher, whose blog mentions a great app to help those working on black canvas who have an iPad.  It is called Color Softbox and it is free.

You can read a bit about Brenda's design "Aurore Boréale" which was a free design in Needlepoint Now magazine's July/August 2013 issue here.

New Designs, New Products

New things are popping up all over again, but without a trade show on the horizon, I thought I'd list them all here instead of starting a new TNNA Winter 2014 tab.   First, how about some wonderful new Mag Friends needle magnets from Accoutrement Designs?  I love the witch's cauldron with the green goo dripping down but you might be charmed by the Painted Pony angel magnets or Raymond Crawford's owls.

I don't think Clover Wonder Clips are new exactly but I'd never heard of them until Mary Corbet did a review.

Kimberly is designing and showing off hints.

Brenda Kocher is designing new things, too.

Needle Works has plenty of snap trays and beading snap trays in the shop.  They have coordinating fabrics and frame weights are also available.

Hope you enjoyed the newest of the new!

Or Nue Book at Last! UPDATED

Kreinik's blog has a review of the newest Must Have book--Sue Dulle's Celtic Origins, which teaches the pattern couching technique of Or Nue.
http://kreinikthread.blogspot.com/2013/07/book-review-pattern-couching-and-or-nue.html

UPDATE:   Sue commented below with further information about what's in her new book.  Be sure to read before you buy!

Or Nue is basically couching gold metallic thread on the surface of canvas (or fabric) using colored silks to create a pattern against the gold background.  Nimble Needle just took a class from Brenda Kocher on the technique and has posted plenty of photos and a link to Jane Zimmerman's interesting online article about the technique.

Counted Delights

Scarlet Thread has posted photographs (and a teaser) of new charts they have at the shop.  The new items are from Freda's Fancy Stitching, Brenda Kocher and Nancy's Needle.  The hint is a piece of a new design from Jeff Kulick.  I can't wait to see what he has released!  I saw four new designs from him on display at Woodlawn, one of which got a blue ribbon and another of which won my I'd Take That Home If I Could award.  We'll have to wait for Sara Leigh to post more about Jeff's new chart and for me to get my act together enough to write about Woodlawn.

Keep Calm and Smell My Feet

Pocket Full of Stitches is posting new photos of painted canvases they've received from Amanda Lawford and Renaissance Designs.  This is why I love needlepoint--check out the whimsy from Renaissance and the classic patterns from Amanda Lawford.  There really is something for every taste when it comes to needlepoint design.

If painted designs don't float your boat, check out the new counted pieces that Scarlet Thread has in their shop.  I don't know how Sara Leigh does it, but her photographs of charted models are always better than anyone else's!

Counted Canvaswork Classes and News

All of a sudden I have a lot of fun news for the counted canvasworker. Let me list everything here, in no particular order.  Scarlet Thread is showing new items from the online counted thread/cross stitch show on their blog.  Items range from the newest Threedles piece in three color combos to a darling baby sampler (that isn't cutesy or in those insipid pinks and blues baby stuff seems to thrive in) from Brenda Kocher.

Laura Perin has announced her latest shadow stitching class.  This one features pansies.

Laura has decided to do a mystery class as well.  It's going to be a free class with each step announced each Monday on her blog.  Here's the first step.  Bookmark the blog and check out how the design develops or just stitch along here on "Mini Mystery Monday."

New Things at Market

Janet Perry has written two reports about new items that should be available to order at the Columbus trade show.  She mentions all sorts of things, not just new painted canvases.  Sadly there are no photos or website links but as these things are pretty new, they probably aren't viewable anywhere yet.  However, I did find three of the new Kelly Clark Halloweenies ornaments.  That's the third link, midway down the page.

All the designers are getting ready for the trade show.  Here's Patt's report on how things are going as Patt and Lee Designs prepares.

EyeCandy has a new Halloween pin cushion that'll make a nice frameweight.

Brenda Kocher has two new designs out for the counted canvaswork collector.
