New Leather Goods for Self Finishing

The Wool and the Floss just got new self-finishing items from a Kentucky company:  leather round or square coasters and snap trays.  Here are the coasters.

The snap trays aren't on their website yet but are mentioned toward the end of the May 24 unboxing Instagram from the shop.

Pointing It Out Talks Ornaments Finished as Anything BUT Ornaments

Can you tell I'm catching up on the Pointing It Out podcasts?  Yeah, Holiday Madness means I got behind listening to Michelle and Megan.  This episode is a fun one—ways to finish ornament-sized canvases as things other than ornaments.

Carol Eix Demonstrates Frame Weights: The Movie

Recently Creative Stitches and Gifts in Houston has started a series of short videos for their Facebook page.  These videos are interviews with local designers.  This particular video is of Carol Eix, who creates frame weights, snap trays and who also owns Creative Stitches and Gifts.

The video always shows how to use a snap tray (or a bead snap tray), a button snap magnet, pincushions, etc.

Breaking News: New Owner for Creative Stitches and Gifts

Creative Stitches and Gifts in Dallas has a new owner--Carol Eix!
http://www.creativestitchesandgifts.com

The reason Carol's name seems familiar is because you love her line of snap trays and frame weights and those clever button laying tool holders.

Congratulations to Carol and Creative Stitches!

Anna Pearson's Travel Tips (with Help from Lisa)

The British needlepoint designer Anna Pearson loves to travel and posted travel tips for the needlepointer on her blog. Those of us who travel a lot for work or pleasure already know these things (and might have tips of your own--put those in the Comments if you don't mind) but if you only fly occasionally, this might help you get organized.
http://anna-pearson-needlepoint.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/travel-tips.html

By the way, Lisa of BeStitched has a great travel tip--she uses Carol Eix Design snap trays to stay organized when stitching on a plane or keeping items together in a hotel room.

Finishing Friday: All Sorts UPDATE

I have all sorts of interesting finishing to show off today. First, Ridgewood is turning small round ornaments into snap trays.  Clever!  I think the leather look snap trays are self-finishing but I am not certain.  I could have dreamed someone has these available....
http://ridgewoodneedlepoint.blogspot.com/2014/06/blog-post_15.html

Eye Candy shows off one of their "Garden Party" designs finished in a shadowbox.  This is perfect since this piece was created in a Ruth Schmuff class and the heart is padded in the trapunto style, making it rise off the canvas.
http://eyecandyneedleart.blogspot.com/2014/06/another-lovely-garden-party.html

Finally, Needle Nicely has finished their Sasha the Lady Chef doll but wait--there is a problem!  How will Mary Agnes solve it?

UPDATE:  Sasha has hair!

New Designs, New Products

New things are popping up all over again, but without a trade show on the horizon, I thought I'd list them all here instead of starting a new TNNA Winter 2014 tab.   First, how about some wonderful new Mag Friends needle magnets from Accoutrement Designs?  I love the witch's cauldron with the green goo dripping down but you might be charmed by the Painted Pony angel magnets or Raymond Crawford's owls.
http://fobfriends.blogspot.com/2013/09/have-you-seen-have-you-heard.html

I don't think Clover Wonder Clips are new exactly but I'd never heard of them until Mary Corbet did a review.
http://www.needlenthread.com/2013/09/clover-wonder-clips.html

Kimberly is designing and showing off hints.
http://akimberlydesign.blogspot.com/2013/09/glimpses.html

Brenda Kocher is designing new things, too.

Needle Works has plenty of snap trays and beading snap trays in the shop.  They have coordinating fabrics and frame weights are also available.

Hope you enjoyed the newest of the new!

Snap Trays, Big and Little

If you like a little catch all to keep your scissors, spools of threads, needle package, etc. handy but tidy, then a snap tray might be just the thing for you.  I admit I have one that I don't use because it is so pretty, I don't want dog hair all over it.  You can get them in vinyl, though.  That would be very easy to clean...
http://www.etsy.com/shop/annebvinyl?section_id=11901562

Snap trays also come in a small size with a magnet to corral those pesky beads.  Here are pictures and a review, courtesy of Nimble Needle.

Snap Trays for the Fashionable

Bedecked and Beaddazzled now offers coordinated bead snap trays and regular snap trays.  If you are the sort of person who cares about the look of your tools and wants useful ones as well, this is for you.  Since Ruth is a cat person, the first to arrive are Hello Kitty themed.  Stay tuned for many more....

Swimming with Ruth's Mermaid

Ruth Schmuff has started her newest mystery class, the Aquamarine Mermaid from Sandra Vargas. Ruth is like me, she started with the background and the face.  What's especially impressive is how she varies the background from rows of bubbles to random ones. It does look like bubbles are rising toward the surface!

The New and the Creative

There are some new fun things available.  Needle in a Haystack works with a woodworker to offer some charming little ort boxes.  The second link to the NIAH site has a lot of lovely wooden items, particularly the laying tools.

Ruth Schmuff has introduced a new type of snap tray--a small magnetic one for beads.

Not ready to spend a lot of money on a new tool?  Mary Corbet has a great substitute for an expensive floor stand.

Just in Time for Christmas

There are more new things to talk about in the stitching-blog world, and with Christmas coming, some of these might need to go on your list for Santa. Needle in a Haystack has short blurbs about some new books they have in stock. Personally, I would love to see the Embroidered Portraits book under my tree. Jan Messent is well known in the embroidery world so this is definitely going to be an interesting book for those who love stitched faces and clothing.
http://needlestack.typepad.com/whats_new/2012/11/new-book-arrivals.html

The recent power outages (we've had three in the last year that lasted from 4 hours to five days here in CH) have us all thinking battery powered lights. Vicky shows off a battery or USB powered light that is also great for travel. By coincidence Quail Run has this very light on their website so I included both links to give you more information if you are interested.

Accoutrement Designs has announced a new partnership with Norden Crafts, which will bring some of their magnets to shops via Norden.  This means a broader range of shops will carry their work, which is good news for us all.  Congratulations!
http://fobfriends.blogspot.com/2012/11/new-partnership.html

Ruth Schmuff's shop has all sorts of holiday snap trays and project bags.
http://needlenicely.blogspot.com/2012/11/needle-felting.html

Speaking of magnets, Pocket Full of Stitches has new ones in stock.  I think these are fabric or paper patterns showing through the clear acrylic but I'm not certain.

That's One SCARY Shop!

Absolutely Needlepoint is decorating for Halloween.  If you happen to be in south Miami, do me a favor and dress up in costume before your next visit, ok?

I think Bedecked and Beadazzled is just as frightening!

Vicky isn't as scary but then we are all suckers for gifts from sisters.

Do It Yourself Snap Tray UPDATED

When I posted about the huge variety of snap trays available to hold your tools and threads while you work in style, Erica spoke up about this link to a site with instructions for making your own "travel trays."  Judging from the photo, there is a version that uses Velcro to join the corners instead of snaps, too.  Since this link was in a Comment, I wasn't sure many folks would see it, so I'm posting about Erica's find in a message you will see, in case you are interested in making these yourself.
http://patternspot.com/patterns/sewing-patterns/1617-travel-tray

Many many thanks, Erica!

UPDATE:  Here's Erica's new home made snap tray.  Cute!

Invitation to a Garden Party

Ruth is throwing a Garden Party! The featured guest is this collage design from Eye Candy which is the subject of Ruth Schmuff's next mystery class.  No one, not even Ruth, knows exactly how this will turn out but since Ruth loves color and bling and wonderful stitches, this is a party you want to RSVP for as soon as possible.
