Sue and Rosie made the trip to the D.C. area to take in the shops and view the Woodlawn exhibit. Luckily, Rosie took notes and photos when she could. Here is their adventure! First, a stop at Ruth Schmuff's shop, Bedecked and Beadazzled. The second link is to Threedles' "A Different View," in case you aren't familiar with this Kurdy Biggs design.

Then there is the exhibit itself.

And a side trip to In Stitches and Needles and Threads of Ruxton!

Needle Delights is proud to announce that their design "Duality"won at Woodlawn! Here's the stitcher with her prize winner.
http://needledelightsoriginals.blogspot.com/2014/04/woodlawn-winner.html
I don't see "Duality" on the Needle Delights Originals website so this may be a teaching piece only. I did find some interesting color ways, though. Enjoy!

Before I forget, here are Donna's ribbon entries. I think I've posted this photo before but she does lovely work. I just love her original Moxie design!

Woodlawn Winners from 2014 and 2012 UPDATED

Woodlawn 2014
Since March 31st was the last day of the Woodlawn needlework exhibit, I did a little Googling to see if anyone has reported on the Best of Show winner. I came up with two hits--apparently the 2014 Best in Show winner was a "blackwork" piece. There are no any photos of it I can find but you can see one of the blue ribbon winners (in the Surface Embroidery catagory) here.
http://www.paperstitch.net/2014/03/02/woodlawn-2014/
I also stumbled across a photo of the 2012 Best in Show winner, which is a charming embroidery piece. I actually saw this in person the last time I made it to the show. The embroidery details among the letters and the flowers are very charming--they include a tiny snail, butterflies, a dragonfly, a lady bug, etc. Click on the photo for a slightly better look.

Congratulations to all those who entered and all those who made it to the show!
UPDATE: I found a list from Woodlawn of all the folks who entered in 2014 with a list of any ribbons they won. Apparently this was published in a program, presumably the one they hand out to visitors to the exhibit.

Melita has reported in from her road trip to see the Woodlawn exhibit. Her report is fantastic!

I think the large saint canvases by Joan she mentioned are Joan Eidman's being featured in Needlepoint Now magazine. You can see a photograph on Joan's blog.

I thought folks would like to read about Sue's trip to Woodlawn. Sounds like she had a blast.
http://blog.njneedleartists.org/2014/03/10/woodlawn-needlework-exhibit-2014/
Here are photos of some of the pieces Sue mention, in the order which she talked about them. First, Ro Pace's Atlantis Rising.
http://lizartblog.blogspot.com/2012/03/atlantis-rising-finished.html
I don't know which blue Nancy Cucci piece she saw, but these are typical of Nancy's teaching pieces.
http://brendasneedlepointstudio.blogspot.com/2013/06/irrisistible-iridescents.html
Kurdy Biggs is a counted canvaswork designer under the Threedles name.Again, I don't know specifically which designs Sue saw stitched. Thanks to The Threedles Fairy, I know which pieces Kurdy Biggs exhibited--The Butterfly Effect in the Midnight color way...
http://www.threedles.com/06012011/2014/ButterflyEffect/ButterflyEffect.html
Triple Crown in the Preakness colors, and ...
http://www.threedles.com/06012011/2013/2013Designs.html#TripleCrown
Hexefoos in the Strasburg colors - Thanks for the help, Fairy!
http://www.threedles.com/06012011/2013/2013Designs.html#Hexefoos
Here is Melita's Crescent River, an original design. Use the search feature to watch this being stitched on Melita's blog.
http://melitastitches4fun.wordpress.com/2014/02/02/crescent-river-floating-down-to-woodland/
I don't know which Rita Hayworth canvas Sue saw but it might have looked something like Sandy Arthur's version of a Leigh Designs canvas from Leigh's "Femme Fatale" series.
UPDATE: Yes, this is the canvas that Sue admired. I didn't think to ask if she used the stitch guide.

Maggie reminds us that Woodlawn Plantation's 2014 Exhibit is coming next March, which means the deadline for sending your piece to exhibit is coming, too. Put this on your calendar as the White House Christmas tree ornaments will be on display again this year. There's a link to the paperwork you will need, by the way. Thanks, Maggie!
