Needlepoint Earrings

William just posted a photo of the needlepoint earrings he made for friends.  Very clever!

New Jewelry Settings by Nunn Design

It's been quite a while since I've been able to find good jewelry settings to create silk gauze embroidery pins and broaches, so I was thrilled to see Mary Corbet talk about the settings available from Nunn Design.

Can these be used for needlepoint canvas or Congress cloth?  Maybe.  I imagine it will be hard to turn the edges of the raw canvas under easily unless you dampen them.  The bonus for using silk gauze is the silver backing will show and add glitz to the design if you don't stitch the background entirely.  Traditionally one puts gold lame' fabric behind silk gauze when mounting in jewelry.  I think you can do this if you wish since normally lame' is a very thin material.

Bottom line:  If you want to try needlepoint on silk gauze, this is a great little project to use.  You can make broaches, pins, bracelets, and even ornaments.  Otherwise, I'm not sure how traditional needlepoint will work, but it is a nice thing to experiment with.  Here's the video explaining how to assemble your stitching into the jewelry setting.

Self Finishing Videos

The Egyptian Cat Has Jewelry

At long last I have finished stitching the jewelry on the Egyptian Cat!  Sorry to have taken so long but summers are very busy in Chilly Hollow.  We have outside chores, house guests, and much more that takes me away from stitching during the summer time.  But at least I've finished the cat's jewelry.  You can see the canvas above without any jewelry.

Catra All Bling'd Out

And here is Catra with her jewelry finished. Oddly, it was the teal green and gold rows on the collar that gave me fits.  I just couldn't get that right.

Testing Palestrina Knots and Detached Buttonhole

First I tried Palestrina Knots on the upper row, left.  Then I tried two rows of detached buttonhole on the lower row, left.  Finally I settled on using Diagonal Mosaic.  I liked the Diagonal Mosaic best.  It gave me the texture of turquoise chips that had holes drilled in them to make jewelry. Hope you like it as much as I do.

Now for the main question--does the orange nose (satin stitches using orange Shimmer Blend ribbon floss) look ok now that the jewelry is in position?

The bottom border is all that remains undone.  Stay tuned!

Two New Silk Braids

Mary Corbet talks about Soie Tressage, which is Au Ver A Soie's new Satouche and flat braid lines, both very small and elegant silk trims that have multiple applications in needlework and finishing.

I suspect this new line has been spurred by the new interest in making reproduction 17th Century caskets and mirrors as there are many ways to use it in creating the decorative stumpwork that adorns these beauties.  However, there are many other ways to use these new trims such as their use in jewelry making.  Do look at her link to a Pinterest page of such things as it is full of ideas we can crib for our needlepoint.

A Monogram for Christmas

Ridgewood has a really clever idea for a stitching gift on their blog today--combine a monogram canvas and a box lid and call it done!  Of course with Christmas almost here, this may not be feasible for a December 25 present but there are birthdays and anniversaries and other things in our futures where this will be a wonderful idea.
