Tips and Tricks From the Clever Needlepointer

There are a lot of smart stitchers Out There and many of them blog. Today I have a collection of smart ideas from all over that may come in handy in your stitching life. First up is Mary Agnes in Vero Beach, whose staff came up with a clever way to deal with running out of thread for a stocking. (By the way, the singing turkey link she mentions is hilarious!)

Diane has a very clever way of making sure both sides of a coat or other stitched clothing match.  And no, I hadn't figured this out!  By the way, notice that the Holy Family have a golden yellow background while the Wise Men all have a blue background.  This is a very clever way of making the central figures of the Nativity stand out.  Kudos to Diane!

Christmas in July

So many shops have Christmas canvases on sale in July that I thought I'd show off some terrific Christmas pieces, just to inspire you in case you bought something holiday you are stitching madly to make finishing deadlines in September and October.   One of Ridgewood's customers stitched a Melissa Shirley double sided angel to use as a Christmas tree topper.  Isn't that an amazing face?  Hope Melissa has seen this one!

Other Uses for Mini Socks

I think you'll enjoy a good long look at Jane's Twelve Days of Christmas mini socks. I am pretty sure they are from Tapestry Tent and Jane says the club was from the French Knot in Texas, so you too can stitch these if you've a mind to.  She used hers for silverware holders at dinner parties, which must have looked wonderful!  Christmas can happen any month of the year, besides....

A Partridge in a Pear Tree

The Twelve Days of Christmas song starts out with the gift of a partridge in a pear tree, so this entry from  Linda about Melissa Shirley's partridge from her version of this Christmas theme is fun to see.  However,  when Linda shows you the real thing and states they don't have beads, I don't think Kelly Clark was paying attention.

Christmas Sets

Nativities aren't the only sets of needlepoint that decorate our homes during the Christmas season. How about carolers?  These are often done in a "Dickens" style.  This set that Stephanie beautifully stitched is from Heartstrings.

Way Too Cheerful About Snow Part Deux UPDATED

I hate snow.

This snowman ornament worship has to stop! We hate snow in CH!!!  Stitch anything BUT snowmen!!!!  Please?

Well, you can tell that no one at Serendipity Needleworks pays any attention to Moi.  Their newest monthly club information is on their blog, and the first canvas is a snowman ornament from Debbie Mumm/Melissa Shirley Designs.  They call their club Home for the Holidays, and the Mumm ornaments feature stitch guides written by Julia Snyder.  Obviously they haven't heard about Winter 2010 when I was trapped at home for a total of 28 days over three blizzards.  No groceries, no mail, no leaving the house except to shovel the porch and walk the dogs.  The photo above memorializes the Horror Of It All.  I ran out of coffee....

Nancy, M's Canvas House has a fabulous Christmas ornament set that are all beachy!   It's called A Beach Lover's Twelve Days of Christmas.  Each is about 4 inches in diameter on 18 count canvas.  They cost $50 retail and if you buy all twelve you get a discount bringing the total cost for the entire set to $550.  I suppose they are from Elizabeth Turner Designs but they aren't on their website or on the M's website either.  Good luck finding a beach set!
